Introduction
Ifyousayit,youmaynotbelieveit.IntheSchoolofSoftwareofFudanUniversity,theyoungdeanZangBinyuiscalled"Boss"-adeterrentbutextremelycloseaddress.SpeakingoftheoriginofDeanZang's"Boss",thereisatouchingstory.TheSchoolofSoftwareisoneoftheyoungestschoolsinFudanUniversity.Preparationsbeganin2001.Duringtheestablishmentofthecollege,variousconditionswererelativelydifficult-facultyandstaffweretight,teaching,experimentation,officespacewaslacking,andfundswerealsorelativelyshort...Theonlycomfortingthingwasthatmorethan100peoplecamefromelectriclightsources,chemistry,andmathematics.Newstudentsfromphysics,Chinese,nationalpoliticsandotherdepartmentswillsoonbetransferredtotheSoftwareSchool.Whenacollegehasstudents,ithaseverything.However,theycomefrommultiplefacultiesandlivescatteredinvariousdormitoryareasoftheschool,whichbringsgreatinconveniencetotheexchangesbetweenstudentsandthedevelopmentoftheworkofthecollege.Afterlearningaboutthisproblem,DeanZangmadeadecisivedecisionandactivelysoughtfromtheschooltosolvetheproblemofconcentrationinthestudentdormitoryasquicklyaspossible,andpersonallyarrangedthetransferproceduresforthosestudentstotransfertomajors.Becausetheoriginalmajorsofstudentsaredifferent,afterenteringthesoftcollege,theyhavealotofdiscomfortwiththenewstudyandlife.

Thecoreofthisspiritcomesfromthis"boss",ordean.DeanBinyuZangreturnedfromIntelChinaSoftwareLabtoFudanUniversitytoestablishtheSchoolofSoftwareinresponsetothecallofthePartyCentralCommitteetovigorouslydevelopChina'ssoftwareindustry.Withthestrongsupportoftheschool,hecompletedtheestablishmentoftheSoftwareAcademyinashortperiodoftime,andhepracticedvariousmatters,whichwasunanimouslyrecognizedbyteachers,studentsandstaff.Aftermorethanayearofhardwork,thecollegenowhasmorethan400undergraduates,morethan400mastersinsoftwareengineering,andmorethan30facultymembers,whichisbeginningtotakeshape."Ididn'tdoanything,everyone'sworktogether."Speakingoftheresultsofhiswork,DeanZangBinyu,anexpertincomputercompilationtechnology,andanunspeakableperson,commentedonhisworkinthisway.
Leavinghometogohomeandbuildahome
In1983,ZangBinyuwasadmittedtothefamousuniversity-FudanUniversityfromSuzhouNo.4MiddleSchoolwithexcellentresults.Hismajorwascomputerscience.Histirelesspursuitofinformationtechnology.Aftergraduatingfromtheuniversityin1990,hehasbeenengagedinteachingandscientificresearch.In1996,hestudiedparallelcompilationtechnologyunderProfessorZhuChuanqi,awell-knowndomesticparallelcomputingexpert,andreceivedhisdoctoratein1999.Subsequently,hewaspromotedtoaprofessoratFudanUniversityin2001andadoctoralsupervisoratFudanUniversityin2002.Formorethantenyears,hehasmadeoutstandingachievementsinmanyfieldssuchasparallelcompilation,optimizingcompilation,anddynamicoptimizingcompilation:hedevelopedaparallelcompilationsystemAFT(AutomaticFortranTransformer)byhimself;hedevelopedaparallelcompilationsystemincooperationwiththeUniversityofMinnesotaDevelopmentplatformAgassiz(targetlanguageisC,Fortran);scientificresearchresultsofparallelcompilationwonthesecondprizeofScienceandTechnologyProgressAwardoftheNationalDefenseScienceandIndustryCommissionandthesecondprizeofShanghaiScienceandTechnologyProgressAwardin1996;wontheUSpatentintheresearchfieldofbinarydynamictranslatorOneitem;publisheddozensofpapersininternationalanddomesticauthoritativejournals;atthesametimepresidedovermanyscientificresearchprojects,suchas"ShanghaiVenusProgram","IntelUniversityCooperationProgram","PhilipsUniversityCooperationProgram"andsoon.Inadditiontotheachievementsinscientificresearch,ProfessorZangisalsoactivelyengagedinsocialwork,servingasadirectoroftheChinaSharewareAllianceandamemberoftheSystemSoftwareCommitteeoftheChinaComputerSociety.Theserichscientificresearchandsocialexperiencehavelaidasolidfoundationforhisbrilliantachievementstoday.
"Foundingasoftwareacademyisbothanopportunityandachallenge"isthefirstsentenceofDeanZanginhislegendarystory.BeforeandaftertheestablishmentoftheSoftAcademy,DeanZangwentthroughthetortuousprocessof"leavinghome-goinghome-buildingahome".Startingfromthereasonsforthereformofthecollege’steachingsystem,DeanZangdescribedtheexperienceinhisconcisevocabulary.In1999,heparticipatedintheworkofthecomputerdepartmentcurriculumreformteamwherehewasatthattime,sohehadtheopportunitytogetintouchwiththecomputercurriculumsettingsoffamousuniversitiesintheUnitedStates,Canadaandmanyothercountries.Hefoundthattherearegreatdifferencesinteachingconcepts,teachingmethods,andteachingcontentbetweenforeignanddomestic.Firstofall,theforeigncurriculumsystemisrelativelycompleteandthecontentconnectionisreasonable.Secondly,theimplementationofthecreditsystemismorethorough.InChina,itisnotuncommonforthecurriculumsystemtobeincompleteandtheteachingcontenttobedisconnected;andtheadvancementofthecreditsystemisonlyattheinitialstage.ThesereasonshaveopenedabiggapbetweenthelevelofteachingandpersonneltraininginChinaandforeigncountries.Toacertainextent,thisisalsooneofthereasonsfortheslowdevelopmentofChina'ssoftwareindustry.Therefore,inthecoursereformoftheDepartmentofComputerSciencein1999,hedeliberatelyintroducedsomeforeigncoursesandtextbooks,adoptedpartoftheteachingsystemofforeigncomputerdisciplines,andreformedthecurriculumsystemforthe2000-levelcomputerdepartmentstudents.However,theintensityoftheteachingreformthistimedidnotmeettheexpectationsofDeanZang.Inhisheart,healwayshopedthattherewouldbeamorefreespacetorealizehisteachingphilosophy.Inaddition,thegapintheleveloftalenttrainingisalsoreflectedinthegapinthelevelofscientificresearchathomeandabroad.Hehasworkedinuniversitiesforalongtimeandrealizedthatthedifferenceinscientificresearchsystemsisanimportantreasonforthisgap,butwhatisthesystemofforeignscientificresearchinstitutions?Yes,hedidnothavetheopportunitytolearnmore.CoincidentallyinAugust2000,IntelChinaLabhadanimportantscientificresearchprojectthaturgentlyneededexpertsinparallelcompilation,soheinvitedhim.Afterdeliberation,hedecidedtoresignfromthecomputerdepartmenttounderstandtheoperatingmechanismofforeignscientificresearchinstitutions.
So,in2000,DeanZang"lefthome"andwenttoIntelChinaSoftwareLab.Atthattime,intheteamheworkedfor,hewastheonly"domestic"architectureengineer,andtherestwereforeigners,whichgavehimthespacetofullydisplayhistalentsandcommunicate.DuringhisyearatIntel,hehadanin-depthunderstandingofthemodernmanagementsystemofforeignscientificresearchinstitutionsanddeeplyfeltIntel’sstrongcorporateculture.DeanZangtoldusthatforeigncompaniesattachgreatimportancetothecareerdevelopmentplanofeachemployee,includingtrainingofsomeskills,inordertomaximizetheintelligenceofeachemployee,whileensuringthateachemployeecanbeinthecompanyasmuchaspossible.Tofindtheirownspaceforsurvivalanddevelopment,employeesarepartofthecorporateculture.Whatheimpressedmostwasthedifferencebetweenthe"threesmall"andthe"threesmall":inIntelandotherwell-knownforeigncompanies,thepersonnel,finance,andgeneralaffairsofthecompanyarecalledthe"threesmall",andthepurposeofthesedepartmentsistoserve.Servingtechnology,production,salesandotherdepartments.Onthecontrary,thesedepartmentshavebecomethe"threemajors"inmanydomesticenterprises,withgreatpower,greatbureaucracy,andgreatstyle,withnoorfewserviceconcepts.
OneyearofworkexperienceatIntelCorporationhasmadeDeanZang’soriginalreformconvictionsfirmerandhisreformideasmoremature.Butatthistime,hehadn'tthoughtoftheopportunitytoimplementchange-themomenthelaughedas"dramaticchange"wasquietlyapproaching.
Inthesecondhalfof2001,theMinistryofEducationandtheNationalDevelopmentPlanningCommissionissuedthe"NoticeoftheMinistryofEducationandtheStatePlanningCommissiononApprovingtheTrialOperationofDemonstrationSoftwareCollegesinHigherEducationInstitutions",andFudanUniversitywasapprovedtotrialthenationaldemonstrationSexSoftwareAcademy.Thenewcollegeneedsanewleader.ThecolleagueoftheformerSchoolofInformationTechnologyrecommendedDeanZangtoPresidentWangShenghong.Atthistime,hehasachievedalotofscientificresearchresultsinIntel,andtheprojectteamheledhassuccessfullycompletedmanytasks,andhehasfeelingsforthecompany.However,inthediscussionwithschoolleaders,whentheprincipaltalkedabouttheschoolpolicy,schoolsystemandtheideaofinternationalizationoftheSchoolofSoftware,DeanZangresolutelydecidedtoabandonthegeneroustreatmentatIntelandacceptedthemissionhappily.Knowingthedifficultyofstartingabusiness,but"preferredtoHushan"and"leavinghome"forayear,he"goedhome"again,andreturnedtoa"home"thatwasstillbeingconceived.Althoughthe"home"atthistimeisalmost"familydisciples",hefirmlybelievesthatmorethantenyearsofknowledgeandexperienceaccumulationandoneyearofscientificresearchexperienceinmultinationalcompaniescandefinitelybuilda"home".Duringtheinterview,DeanZangsaid,"NomatterhowwellIdoithere(referringtoIntel),itisdoneforothers.Nowthecountryneedstocultivatetalents,andtheleaderstrustme,andinthefutureIcanhelpourownfamilymembers.I'vedonesomething."
ByDecember2001,theSoftwareSchoolbeganpreparations,andDeanZangofficiallytookoffice.
Admissions,talentintroductionandeducation
Withoutstudents,thecollegehasnothingtodowithit,sothetoppriorityistorecruitstudents.AccordingtothespiritoftheMinistryofEducation,itispossibletorecruitstudentsfromtheschooltotransfermajors,soDeanZangimmediatelyorganizedmanpowertocarryoutenrollmentpublicity,fromplanning,designingtomakingenrollmentposters,advertisingandpublicitycolorpagesinonego,andusingeverythingpossibleThemethodsandmeansusedtoreleaseinformation:holdinglectures,postingposters,distributingleaflets,campusbroadcasts,settingupwebsites,openingBBSspecialpages,etc.,attractedmorethan200studentsfromalldepartmentsofthe2000gradetocometosignup.TheselectiontestwasarrangedaftertheSpringFestival,and107peoplewereadmittedbasedontheirperformance.OnMarch18,2000,theSchoolofSoftwarehelditsopeningceremony.Thefirstundergraduatesbegantotakeclasses.Anationalexemplarysoftwareschoolbeganitscourse.Then,inthesameyear,thecollegelaunchedtheenrollmentfor2001and2002undergraduatestudentsandsuccessfullycompletedtheenrollmentplan.InSeptember,theinternationalcooperationinrunningaschoolasoneofthegoalsoftheSchoolofSoftwarewasalsosettled:asoftwaretalentjointtrainingplanwassignedwiththeUniversityofDublininIreland,andthefirstjointtrainingstudentswererecruited.Sincethen,thecollege'sundergraduatetrainingsystemisbasicallycomplete.
AnimportantgoaloftheestablishmentoftheSoftwareSchoolistocultivatehigh-levelandcompoundsoftwaretalentswithinternationalcompetitivenessandinnovationcapabilities.Therefore,inadditiontoundergraduateeducation,itisalsonecessarytodevelopmastersofengineeringandengineeringathomeandabroad.Master'sdegreeanddegreeeducation.Therefore,recruitingmastersofsoftwareengineeringandengineeringhasnaturallybecomeamajortaskofthecollege.Aftersufficientpreparationandpublicity,theenrollmentoftwoengineeringmasterswascompletedin2002.InthewordsofDeanZang,2002wastheyearofenrollment,and5studentswererecruitedwithinayear.Thishasneverhappenedbefore.Thisyear,forthefirsttime,morethan130newstudentswererecruitedfromthenationalhighschoolgraduatesaccordingtotheirapplicationandcollegeentranceexaminationresults,markingthatthecollege'senrollmentworkhasembarkedonapathofnormalization.
Inordertoachievetheschool’sgoals,anexcellentteamofteachersisessential.Inviewoftherapidupdateofknowledgeinthesoftwarefieldandhighrequirementsforpersonnelquality,DeanZangnotonlyintroducedmiddle-agedandelderlyteacherswithrichteachingandscientificresearchexperience,butalsoboldlyusedyoungteachersandprovidedyoungteacherswithopportunitiesforall-rounddevelopment.Thepersonnelaffairsofthecollegearebasedontheprincipleof“nodoubtaboutemployingpeople,andnodoubtaboutothers”.Underthepremiseofensuringthequalityofteaching,eachteacherisgivenfullfreedomtoplay.Talentshavealwaysbeenthecoreissueofconcernintheconstructionofthecollege'sfaculty.Intheprocessofhiringteachers,thereissuchastory:APh.D.graduatedfromtheDepartmentofAutomationControlofTsinghuaUniversity,basedontheindustrialvalueofhisdoctoraldissertation,becametheCTOofanycompany.WhenheheardaboutthesoftwareschoolofFudanUniversity,hecametoapplyforthejobadmirably.Afterunderstandingandtalking,DeanZangthoughtthathewasararetalent,sohedidhisbesttoinvitedoctorstojoinhim.Thedoctorhopestocontinuehisscientificresearch,forwhichthecollegemustprovideverysufficientconditions,allofwhichhavebeenapprovedbyDeanZangonebyone.WithallsincerityandJinshi,thedoctorfinallyresignedfromhisoriginalpositionandbecameamemberoftheFudanSoftwareSchool.Hiswife,anoutstandingwomanalsoengagedintheITindustry,alsosettledinFudanwithhim.It'snowonderthatatthelatestparty,thedoctoralcoupleexpressedemotion,"Thehusbandandwifereturntheirhomes,andthesoftcourtyardisourhome."
Formorethanayear,basedontheprinciplesofrelativestability,reasonablemobility,andcombinationofprofessionalismandintegration,thecollegehasabsorbedmanytalentsfromwell-knowndomesticandforeignuniversitiesandwell-knownITcompanies.DeanZanghappilytoldusthatatpresent,theconstructionofthecollege’sfacultyhasinitiallyestablishedafacultymanagementmodelthatcombinesarelativelystablebackbonelayerwithanorderlyflowlayerandaneffectivesystemfortheallocationanddevelopmentofteacherresources.AnacademicaccomplishmentAteamofteacherswithhigheducation,agoodacademicstructure,andrichexperienceinteachingandsoftwaredevelopmentisgraduallyforming.
Studentsandteachersalreadyhaveascale,andteachingworkmustbeimprovedaccordingly.Tothisend,DeanZanghasalsoputalotofeffortintotheteachingsystem.Hefocusedonsystem-levelapplicationsandenterprise-levelapplicationsofsoftware,andproposedthatthecurriculumshouldfocusonhigh-endandlow-enddevelopmentondistributedandheterogeneousplatforms,andstrengthenthefoundationofprogramdesign,algorithms,datastructures,architecture,andengineeringmanagement.Theoreticalandbasicskillstraining,absorbingtheadvantagesofequalemphasisonthebreadthanddepthofthecurriculumsystemofwell-knownEuropeanandAmericanuniversities,combiningthecurrentmarketdemandfortalentsandgraspingtheforesightofindustrialdevelopment,comprehensivelyimprovestudents'analysisanddesigncapabilitiesanddevelopmentandpracticalcapabilities.Thedesignoftheentirecurriculumsystemisnotlimitedtotheteachingofpopulartools,butshouldfocusontheabsorptionofbasictheoriesandthetrainingofthinkingmethodsandlearningabilities.Inaddition,fortheMasterofSoftwareEngineering,itisnecessarytopayattentiontotheteachingofmethodologyandtheimprovementofmanagementthinking.Casestudiesshouldbethecoreandthesoftwaredevelopmentprocessshouldbethefocustopromotestudentstobecompetentforpositionsinsystemanalysisandprojectmanagement.
