Research Summary
Yan Ning Atlas (6 photos)< /p>Since Yan Ning returned to China to set up a laboratory in October 2007, she has been committed to the study of the structure and function of membrane proteins in structural biology. In 2014, she led the team to analyze the three-dimensional crystal structure of human glucose transporter GLUT1 for the first time in the world. In 2015, it further obtained the ultra-high resolution structure of GLUT3 binding substrate and inhibitor with more conformations, thus making it clear Revealed the molecular basis of the basic cellular process of glucose transport across the membrane. She has also made important contributions to the field of ion channel structural biology, analyzing the crystal structure of voltage-gated sodium ion channels, and recently obtained the high-resolution structure of the largest calcium ion channel RyR1 using the latest cryo-electron microscopy technology.
Yan Ning has made a series of achievements in the field of structural biology research on membrane proteins, especially transmembrane transporters, including the landmark three-dimensional crystal structure of human glucose transporter GLUT1; she is in the field of ion channel research She has also made great achievements and contributed one of the main structures to the research of sodium ion channels; she also used the latest cryo-electron microscopy technology to analyze the high-resolution structure of the high-throughput calcium ion channel RyR1.

Academic report
On December 19, 2018, Yan Ning was invited to visit the Qingdao campus of Shandong University and made a titled "How is electrical signal generated? Structure and mechanistic investigations of Nav channels "Academic report, and taught a science lesson for undergraduates. In her report, she pointed out that sodium ion voltage-gated channels are involved in the maintenance of resting potentials and action potentials in excitatory cells, and are closely related to the regulation of normal physiological functions and the occurrence of diseases. Starting from the structure of sodium ion channels, Yan Ning first analyzed the structure of the sodium ion channel NavRh in bacteria. With the innovation of cryo-electron microscopy technology, he further analyzed the sodium ion channel structure of eukaryotic cockroaches and electric eels, as well as humans. The structure of the Nav1.4 channel; shared the bottlenecks encountered in analyzing the structure of the human Nav1.4 channel and the solution ideas, focusing on optimizing the protein properties of the membrane protein Nav1.4 and solving the protein denaturation problem in cryo-electron microscopy sample preparation ; Modified the traditional "Ball and Chain" model of sodium ion channel activity regulation, and proposed an allosteric blocking mechanism.
