DVI

ThefullnameofDVIisDigitalVisualInterface,whichwasdevelopedin1999bySiliconImage,Intel(Intel),Compaq(Compaq),IBM,HP(HP),NEC,Fujitsu(Fujitsu)andothercompaniesjointlyformedtheinterfacestandardintroducedbytheDDWG(DigitalDisplayWorkingGroup).ItisbasedonSiliconImage'sPanalLinkinterfacetechnology,basedontheTMDS(TransitionMinimizedDifferentialSignaling)electronicprotocolasthebasicelectricalconnection.TMDSisadifferentialsignalmechanismthatcanencodepixeldataandtransmititthroughaserialconnection.ThedigitalsignalgeneratedbythegraphicscardisencodedbythetransmitteraccordingtotheTMDSprotocolandthensenttothereceiverthroughtheTMDSchannel,andthensenttothedigitaldisplaydeviceafterdecoding.ADVIdisplaysystemincludesatransmitterandareceiver.Thetransmitteristhesourceofthesignal,whichcanbebuiltintothegraphicscardchiporappearonthegraphicscardPCBintheformofanadditionalchip;whilethereceiverisacircuitonthedisplaythatcanreceivedigitalsignals,decodethemandtransmitthemInthedigitaldisplaycircuit,throughthesetwo,thesignalsentbythegraphicscardbecomestheimageonthedisplay.

Type

TherearetwotypesofDVIinterfaces.OneisDVI-Dinterface,whichcanonlyreceivedigitalsignals.Thereareonly3rowsand8columnsontheinterface.24pins,oneofthepinsintheupperrightcornerisempty.Notcompatiblewithanalogsignals.

TheotheristheDVI-Iinterface,whichiscompatiblewithbothanaloganddigitalsignals.CompatiblewithanalogsignalsdoesnotmeanthattheanalogsignalinterfaceD-SubinterfacecanbeconnectedtotheDVI-Iinterface,butmustbeusedthroughaconversionconnector.Generally,thegraphicscardthatusesthisinterfacewillhavearelatedconversionconnector.

Consideringcompatibilityissues,graphicscardsgenerallyuseaDVI-Iinterface,sothattheycanbeconnectedtoanormalVGAinterfacethroughaconversionconnector.ThedisplaywithaDVIinterfacegenerallyusesaDVI-Dinterface,becausesuchadisplaygenerallyalsohasaVGAinterface,sothereisnoneedforaDVI-Iinterfacewithananalogsignal.Ofcourse,thereareafewexceptions.SomemonitorsonlyhaveaDVI-IinterfaceinsteadofaVGAinterface.TheuseofDVIinterfacefordisplayequipmenthasthefollowingtwomajoradvantages:

Fastspeed

DVItransmitsdigitalsignals,anddigitalimageinformationdoesnotneedtopassthroughanyTheconversionwillbedirectlytransmittedtothedisplaydevice,thusreducingthecumbersomeconversionprocessofdigital→analog→digital,greatlysavingtime,soitisfaster,effectivelyeliminatingthesmearphenomenon,andusingDVIfordatatransmission,Thesignalisnotattenuated,andthecolorsarepurerandmorerealistic.

Clearpicturequality

ThecompositetransmissionmethodofearlyTVsignalshasfundamentallimitationsinmathematics.Oncethebrightnessandchromaarecomposited,theycannotbecompletelyseparated.Therefore,inthelate1980s,fromprofessionalvideoeditingapplications,asystemforrecordingandtransmittingbrightnessandchromaseparatelybegantoappear.Althoughthesystemdesignismuchmorecomplicatedthanthecompositesignal,thedisplayandcamcordersandotherequipmentactuallyhavetoseparatethebrightnessandchromaticitybeforetheycandisplayorrecord.Theuseofacomponentsystemwillavoidthelossofpicturequalitycausedbymutualrecombinationandseparation.Therefore,sincethemid-1990s,itbegantospreadtohomeTVs.

Inaddition,theconceptofcomponenttechnologyisalsousedinthedatacompressionprocessusedindigitalsignalrecordinganddigitalTVbroadcasting.Therefore,onDVDplayersandset-topboxes,componentoutputisthemostnaturaltransmissionterminalwiththeleastconversionloss.
