BritishBroadcastingCorporation(BritishBroadcastingCorporation),referredtoasBBC.Foundedin1922,itisthelargestnewsbroadcasterintheUKandoneofthelargestnewsbroadcastersintheworld.AlthoughtheBBCisapublicmediafundedbytheBritishgovernment,itsmanagementismanagedbya12-personsupervisorycommitteeindependentofthegovernment,anditsindependenceisguaranteedbytheRoyalCharter.ThesupervisorycommitteemanagestheBBCasatrusteeofthepublicinterest.Theyareallprominentpeopleinsociety,includingtheheadsofScotland,Wales,NorthernIrelandandEngland.TheyarenominatedbythePrimeMinisteroftheUnitedKingdomandappointedbytheQueenofEngland.

TheExecutiveCommitteeoftheSupervisoryCommitteeiscomposedof16differentdepartmentheadsandisresponsibleforthedailyoperationsoftheBBC.Thechairmanofthecommitteeisthechiefexecutiveofficerandconcurrentlyservesastheeditor-in-chief.TheBBCoperates8TVchannels,10radiochannels,andisdirectlyfundedandoperatedbytheBritishgovernmentforglobalbroadcastingin43languages.TheBBC'smostpopularnewsinthepressisitsstrictrequirements.AllproducersmustabidebytheBBC'sworkrules:ProgrammeProducerGuidelines,whichsetspecificanddetailedrequirementsforallaspectsofeditingandinterviewing.

BeforetheestablishmentoftheBBC,manyprivatecompanieshadtriedtodoradiobroadcastingintheUK.AccordingtotheRadioActof1904,theBritishPostOfficeisresponsibleforissuingradiobroadcastinglicenses.In1919,thepostofficestoppedissuinglicensesduetomanycomplaintsfromthemilitaryaboutexcessivebroadcastingandinterferencewithmilitarycommunications.Asaresult,thenumberofradiostationsplummetedintheearly1920s,andmoreandmorepeopleaskedfortheestablishmentofanationalradiostation.Afterseveralmonthsofdiscussions,acommitteecomposedofradioandradiomanufacturersfinallyputforwardaplan,andtheBBCwasborn.

TheBritishBroadcastingCorporationwasestablishedin1922andwasjointlyfundedbyseverallargeconsortia,includingMarconi(Marconi),BritishGeneralElectricCompany(GEC),BritishThomsonHoustonandsoon.Theinitialpurposeofthecompanywhenitwasfoundedwastoestablishanationwidebroadcastingtransmissionnetworktofacilitatefuturenationwidebroadcasting.OnNovember14,1922,theBBC’sfirstradiostation,2LO,beganbroadcastinginmediumwavesfromtheroofoftheSelfridgesDepartmentStoreonOxfordStreet,London.Thenextday5ITstartedbroadcastingfromBirmingham,and2ZYstartedbroadcastingfromManchester.

In1927,theBBCobtainedtheRoyalCharterofIncorporation.Theboardofdirectorsisresponsiblefortheoperationofthecompany.Themembersoftheboardofdirectorsareappointedbythegovernmentandeachhasatermof4years.Thedailyworkofthecompanyisappointedbytheboardofdirectors.Thepresidentisresponsible.

TheBBCEmpireServicewaslaunchedin1932.ThiswasthefirstBBCradiochanneltobroadcastoutsidetheUK.In1938,BBCArabicradiowaslaunched,whichwastheBBC’sfirstforeignlanguagechannel.BytheendofWorldWarII,theBBChadbroadcasttotheworldinsevenlanguages:English,Arabic,French,German,Italian,PortugueseandSpanish.ThisisthepredecessorofBBCWorldService.

TheScottishengineerJohnRogerBairdbegantocooperatewiththeBBCin1932totrytobroadcastontelevision.OnNovember2,1936,theBBCstartedtheworld'sfirsttelevisionbroadcastservice.TelevisionbroadcastingwasinterruptedduringWorldWarII,butreopenedin1946.OnJune2,1953,theBBCbroadcastedtheenthronementceremonyofQueenElizabethIIatWestminsterAbbey.Itisestimatedthatabout20millionpeopleintheUKdirectlywitnessedtheQueen’senthronement.

InApril1964,BBCTWO(BBCTelevisionTwo)startedbroadcasting.InDecember1967,BBCTWObroadcastincolor,whichwasthefirstTVchannelinEuropetobroadcastincolor.

Duetothechallengeofundergroundradio,theBBCstartedtheBBCRadio1serviceonSeptember30,1967,mainlybroadcastingpopularmusic.OnJanuary17,1983,theBBCwasthefirsttobroadcastabreakfasttimeradioservice,"BBCBreakfastTime",whichwasaheadofitscompetitors.

In1991,theBBCofficiallystartedtheBBCGlobalNewsServiceTVchannel,andlaterchangeditsnametoBBCWorldinJanuary1995.UnliketheBBCGlobalRadioService,theBBCGlobalNewsServiceisacommercialtelevisionstationthatmakesmoneythroughadvertising,whichalsomeansthatthechannelcannotbebroadcastintheUK.

InAugust1998,BBC’sdomesticchannelsalsobegantousesatellitebroadcasting.AnunexpectedresultofthisisthataslongasEuropeanviewersusethesatellitedecodermadeintheUK,theycanalsowatchBBCONEandBBCTWO.

OnNovember11,2012,GeorgeEntwistle,theformerchiefexecutiveoftheBritishBroadcastingCorporation,wronglysuggestedthatitwasrelatedtoaseniorConservativePartymemberwhenhereceivedareportofachildsexualassault.Thescandalwasaffected,andheannouncedhisresignation.TonyHullarrangedtotakeoverasthechiefexecutiveofficerandbecametheshortest-livedpresidentwhenhetookofficeonSeptember17,2012.

OnAugust31,2014,Ms.RonaFairhead(RonaFairhead)becamethenewchairmanoftheBBCTrust,theregulatoroftheBritishBroadcastingCorporation.Fairhead,53,becamethefirstfemalechairpersonoftheBBCTrust,whichisresponsibleforoverseeingthemanagementandoperationoftheBBC.

InDecember2018,the"2018WorldBrand500"compiledbytheWorldBrandLabwasannounced,andtheBritishBroadcastingCorporationranked258th.

TheoriginalpurposeoftheBBCwastoprovidehigh-qualityradiobroadcastingservicestotheBritishpublic.Today,radioshowsarestillanimportantpartofBBCproducts.

BBC’sfirsttworadiostationswereHomeServiceandWorldService,andlaterprovidedsoftprograms(LightProgramme).In1967,themodernmusicchannel,BBCRadio1waslaunched,andadoptedanamingmethod:BBCRadio2broadcastslightmusic,countrymusic,jazzandentertainment,andBBCRadio4wasthepreviousdomesticservice.OnAugust27,1990,BBCRadio5waslaunchedandlaterrenamedBBCRadio5Live(BBCRadio5Live).

TheRadioActof1904stipulatesthatanyonewhowantstobroadcastorreceiveradioprogramsmustobtainalicensefromthepostoffice.AftertheestablishmentoftheBBC,theuser'sreceiptfeebecamethemainsourceoffundingfortheBBC.In1971,thehomeradioreceptionlicensewascancelled,butindividualsmustpaytoobtainalicensetowatchTVprograms.

Controversy

At21o'clockonSeptember2,2007(UKtime),BBCRadio3broadcastthedocumentary"Under18andUnderTheKnife",whichwillbea17-year-oldgirlsufferingfromanorexiaLynseyBowmanwassenttoTexasforbreastaugmentationsurgery,whichcausedcontroversy.TheBritish"NewsoftheWorld"criticizedtheBBCforwastingtheviewingfeespaidbycitizensonsuch"badprograms"andexpressedconcernaboutLinsi'smentalhealthafterbreastaugmentation.TheBBCarguedthatLinxi’sparentspaidforthebreastaugmentationsurgery,andLinxi’sparents’consenthadbeenobtainedbeforetheoperation,andtherewasabsolutelynouseofmoneypaidbythenationals.

Leakedspeechincident

ReportedonSeptember27,2012,aBBCreportersaidthatQueenElizabethIIhadtoldhimthatshehadbeenAradicalIslamicclergymanis"quitedissatisfied."

Thereporter'sactionswereconsideredagreatdestructionofrelatedetiquette,whichwasshocking.OneshouldnotdivulgetheQueen’sdialoguewithherself,especiallywhenwhatshesaidinvolvespolitics,becausetheQueenherselfshouldnothavepoliticalopinionsinprinciple.TheBBCapologizedimmediately,withahumbleattitude,claimingthattheactionsofreporterFrankGardner(FrankGardner)completelyexceededthebottomline.

Thishappenedon"BBCToday"(BBCToday),aninfluentialmorningradioprogramonpublicissues.GardnerisanationalsecurityreporterfortheBBC.HewastalkingaboutAbuHamza,anIslamicclergymanfromEgypt.HamzasettledinEnglandandoncepreachedaviolentholywaragainstBritaininamosqueinnorthLondon.

Formanyyears,theBritishgovernmenthasbeentryingtoextraditeHamzatotheUnitedStates.IntheUnitedStates,Hamzabecameawantedcriminalformanyreasons.OnereasonisthathewasaccusedofestablishingaterroristtrainingcampinOregon.TheEuropeanCourtofHumanRightsruledthattheextraditionofHamzadidnotviolatehishumanrights.ThisdecisionclearedthewayforHamzatobeexpelledfromBritain.WhenGardnerwasdiscussingthecase,hesuddenlyhadtheurgetomentionsomefamouspeoplerelatedtothis.InBritain,theremaybenoonemorefamousthantheQueen.There,mostpeoplelikethequeen,althoughtheymaynotlikeherrelatives.Peopleusuallythinkthatthequeenisacharacterthatisdifficulttoread,andherself-restraintisadmirable.TheythinkthattheQueen'spublicspeechisdeliberatelydull,evenboring.Shehasusedtheartofmeaninglessgossipto"Didyoucomefromafar?"Therefore,whensheactuallyhasherownideas,itseemssurprisinginasense.

Fakestorm

InDecember2011,theBritishBroadcastingCorporation(BBC)brokeoutthefalsificationstorm.Ittookmorethan4yearstoshootthenaturedocumentaryfilm"FrozenPlanet"(FrozenPlanet),oneoftheepisodesshowsaclipofapolarbearmothertakingcareofanewborncub.Thehostsaidthatitwasfilmedinasnowyandiceworld,whichwasappreciatedbytheaudience.Theproduceroftheshow,Jeffs,laterrevealedthetruthontheBBCwebsite,sayingthatpolarbearswouldstayinanicecavewhentheygavebirth.Itisimpossibletotakeaphotograph.Theclose-upshotwastakeninazooinGermany.Theteamhadalreadysetupbeforethemotherbeargavebirth.Goodshot.
